What a weekend!
Friday night certainly was eventful. I was on my way to The Town Pump to play lap-steel with The Broken Hipsters when the wind picked up and the rain began slashing. As I drove, dodging flying debris, I felt compelled to turn around and see how things were at my house. After all, we’ve lost tree limbs in high winds before and I had plenty of time. Good thing I did. When I pulled in my driveway I saw through the blinding rain that my oak tree out front had lost at least two moderately sized limbs and the were blocking the street. I jumped out to try and pull them into the yard only to find that all three of my locust trees had lost limbs too, and they were all in the road. I had to get my neighbor, Randy, to come out in the rain and help me clear the way. When it was done I was soaked and covered with dirt and bark. I showered and managed to make it to the gig with plenty of time to spare. It pays to be an early bird, people.
Saturday night’s Markham St. Grill and Pub gig was simply magical. My closest friends were in attendance and I think I did a pretty good job despite having no onstage support. I’m getting to like playing solo more and more. It can be a little scary at first but it’s also very liberating. I sure hope to play Markham St again soon.
Hale out.
